It's a new year! If that isn't a great reason to ensure that both you and your loved ones' gums and teeth are healthy, consider this:
- Sparkling smiles
- Having the ability to chew for excellent nutrition
- Avoiding discomfort, toothaches, and gum disease that can lead to further health problems
Having a healthy, marvelous mouth throughout 2017, all begins with scheduling your checkup at our dentist office in Cherry Hill, NJ.
At your checkup, our dental hygienists and dentists will not only make sure your teeth are clean and cavity-free, but they will also check for signs of decay, gum disease, and many other oral issues. However, what can you do to help guarantee you and your loved ones' pearly whites stay in pristine condition in between visiting our family dentistry office in Cherry Hill, NJ? Well, here are a few things that you may want to consider:
Stop it with the soda - You may love how soda is fizzy, but this is one of the biggest reasons why it's so bad for your teeth. Two of the main ingredients of many sodas—citric and phosphoric acid—makes soda fizzy, but they also cause your tooth enamel to become softer and your teeth to be more sensitive to cavities. If you want to help maintain your enamel, consider drinking more water (which will also keep you fuller) or limiting your soda intake.
Cut back on the sugary treats - Your favorite sugary snack may eventually lead to tooth decay. Unfortunately, sugar can cause bacteria to grow in your mouth which can, in turn, cause plaque to form and eat away at your gums and enamel. While we aren't saying that you need to cut out all sugar out, you can avoid tooth decay simply by cutting out some incredibly sugary treats and/or making it a point to brush and floss after every meal.
Find the "right" brush - Sometimes, certain toothbrushes can do more harm to your teeth than good. If you didn't know, choosing a softer brush is better for your teeth because it will do less damage to your tooth enamel.
By considering these three things and more, you will be on your way to having a bright smile all throughout 2017. To learn more about what you can do to keep your teeth and gums in great shape, please give us a call, or schedule an appointment online.
